From STOP to START
Old Primary School site – this project took up the best part of my own and other Trust members’ lives throughout 2019! We got stage 1 funding from the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) for a feasibility study to produce a business plan and landscaping proposals for the playground area. We were working in partnership with the Vivarium Trust who wanted to restore the buildings on the site for over 50s cohousing. Unfortunately, Vivarium have not yet been able to realise funding for the cohousing and because of this and the outcome of our feasibility study, we could not progress a stage 2 funding application to SLF to purchase the playground area. The risks involved with the fire-damaged and unsafe buildings made this impossible. Yet another planning application by the owners for private housing on the site was turned down again in March – so we haven’t given up hope just yet of a good outcome for this important site…
