The following are comments taken from the community survey regarding the future of The Old Primary School:
"An absolute disgrace this beautiful building was left to rot and ended up this way. It should be redeveloped as it is one of a kind. It has stolen the hearts of hundreds of people and would be disgraceful if developers had their way to demolish it. If buildings subjects to worse fires (glasgow school or art) can be saved then so can this building. Its part of Inverkeithing's history and shouldn't be written off just like that. "
"I firmly believe this beautiful building can have a 2nd life if in the right hands. More than 1000 want it saved which speaks volumes. I dont think these authorities should just give up on it, its been through 2 world wars and is still standing, even though horrifically now weaker. However it still would be stronger than the flimsy new builds developers want to replace it with. Also the older H block can still be used. I believe this site should be redeveloped for community use but keeping the buildings. Even if flimsy housing was built my main concern is what if they were half built and it all fell through. Youd be left with half finished housing when the school could be upgraded instead."
"I'd favour a community related use for the space, either shared with co-housing project or purely community use. I think we need to acknowledge the previous use of the site and its contribution to the towns history and, also, its importance to residents, rather than accept the eradication of its significance to the community in favour of a purely profit driven development project."
"You CANNOT KNock My OLd Primary School Down It Was My Home From 1980 Until 1986 It Means Everything/ THe Absolute World To Me I LOVE IT"
"The school should be saved as much as possible, including the other buildings and used for the benefit of the community. Wether that is housing for community living or it becomes a hub for information including the museum and a cafe."
"I would like to see it turned into something for the local community a garden maybe for folk to go & share the memories of their school vday young & old just save as much as the main building they can ascpossible"
"Whatever is done with the buildings it should be community use."
"The H block should definitely be turned into something that the whold community can use."
"I think it's important for small towns such as Inverkeithing to preserve at least some of it's history (seeing as a lot of it has been lost previous to this recent fire). The school is an important building that should never have been allowed to fall into the state that it had before the fire. It only seems right that as much of it should be preserved and put to some beneficial use rather than being demolished and replaced with no doubt, poor quality and expensive housing that will benefit no-one in the area, only serving to suit the developer and the people who will be able to afford them or landlords (as has been seen with other new builds locally) and will no doubt never last anywhere near as long as the school buildings have done. The infrastructure in & around Inverkeithing cannot cope as it is. Is buidling yet more housing going to help that situation? I think not. Maybe it's time to stop looking at how much money can be made from selling-off whatever land/buildings there is for financial purposes (where does all that money go?) and start looking at how to rebuild towns that people can be proud to live in."
"As inverkeithing is not far from a world heritage sit and part of the Fife coastal path this area could be used for some sort of. Tourist visitor center and hostel, inverkeithing needs some sort of regenerating not more housing or car parks for computers."
"This building is more than bricks and mortar. The community care what happens to it and it shouldnt be demolihsed and replaced with new build housing. It is a C listed building and should have had more care taken over it."
Additional suggestions for use:
"Large Doctors surgery, in reconstructed main shell, with parking spaces etc maybe an old folks home as well."
"Sport facility for the kids"
"Use old building for hall, meeting rooms, kitchen etc for the whole community."
"Community hub ,( small building ) play area for kids , commercial units to let / enterprise area . NOT BIG FLATS THAT CAST SHADDOWS ON NEARBY PROPERTIES!"
